What the name means
Plain Italian wordplay. Know Your Meme reads chimpanzini as an Italian diminutive of chimpanzee and bananini as an Italianized banana, both carrying the -ini ending Wikipedia lists among the suffixes that make these names sound Italian.
Where it came from
Know Your Meme dates the first video to March 13, 2025, posted on TikTok by @alexey_pigeon, and counts over 29 million views and 3 million likes in two weeks, the largest opening of any character in this set. Reposts by @aimenstaer and @neopetlife each added more than a million plays over the same period.
Why it spread
It is the clearest picture in the set, and clear pictures travel. The Guardian opens on a teacher whose entire class starts talking about these characters the moment one is named, and uses a chimpanzee fused with a banana as its first example. Fan stories then added the indestructible framing Wikipedia records.
